About York
Settled in 1750's, York has an old-world charm with modern features you would expect from a South Carolina town. Originally known as Fergus's Crossroads, a tavern owned by the Fergus brothers at the crossing of 6 important wagon roads (near present day Congress street and Liberty street). York County was established in 1785. A new town, Yorkville was laid out at Fergus's crossing. Yorkville became the new county seat, due to it's central location in the county.
